Compare the2025 Audi Q3VS 2024 Mercedes GLB

2025 Audi Q3
2024 Mercedes GLB

Safety

Both the Q3 and GLB have child safety locks to prevent children from opening the rear doors. The Q3 has power child safety locks, allowing the driver to activate and deactivate them from the driver's seat and to know when they're engaged. The GLB’s child locks have to be individually engaged at each rear door with a manual switch. The driver can’t know the status of the locks without opening the doors and checking them.

The Audi Q3 has standard driver and front passenger side knee airbags mounted low on the dashboard. These airbags helps prevent the driver and front passenger from sliding under their seatbelts or the main frontal airbags; this keeps them better positioned during a collision for maximum protection. Knee airbags also help keep the legs from striking the dashboard, preventing knee and leg injuries in the case of a serious frontal collision. The GLB doesn’t offer a front passenger side knee airbag.

The Q3 has a standard Secondary Collision Brake Assist, which automatically applies the brakes in the event of a crash to help prevent secondary collisions and prevent further injuries. The GLB doesn’t offer a post collision braking system: in the event of a collision that triggers the airbags, more collisions are possible without the protection of airbags that may have already deployed.

To provide maximum traction and stability on all roads, All-Wheel Drive is standard on the Q3. But it costs extra on the GLB.

The Q3’s standard lane departure warning system alerts a temporarily inattentive driver when the vehicle begins to leave its lane and gently nudges the vehicle back towards its lane. A lane departure warning system costs extra on the GLB.

Both the Q3 and the GLB have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning and available around view monitors.

Warranty

The Q3’s corrosion warranty is 7 years longer than the GLB’s (12 vs. 5 years).

Reliability

The Audi Q3’s engines use a cast iron block for durability, while the GLB’s engine uses an aluminum block. Aluminum engine blocks are much more prone to warp and crack at high temperatures than cast iron.

A reliable vehicle saves its owner time, money and trouble. Nobody wants to be stranded or have to be without a vehicle while it’s being repaired. Consumer Reports rates the Q3’s reliability 30 points higher than the GLB.

J.D. Power and Associates rated the Q3 second among small premium suvs in their 2024 Initial Quality Study. The GLB isn’t in the top three in its category.

From surveys of all its subscribers, Consumer Reports’ January 2024 Auto Issue reports that Audi vehicles are more reliable than Mercedes vehicles. Consumer Reports ranks Audi 10 places higher in reliability than Mercedes.

Engine

The Q3 45 TFSI’s standard 2.0 turbo 4-cylinder produces 7 more horsepower (228 vs. 221) than the GLB’s 2.0 turbo 4-cylinder hybrid.

Fuel Economy and Range

To lower fuel costs and make buying fuel easier, the Audi Q3 uses regular unleaded gasoline (premium recommended for maximum performance). The GLB requires premium, which can cost on average about 84.9 cents more per gallon.

The Q3 has 2.4 gallons more fuel capacity than the GLB (15.9 vs. 13.5 gallons), for longer range between fill-ups.

Brakes and Stopping

For better stopping power the Q3’s front brake rotors are larger than those on the GLB:

The Q3’s standard front and rear disc brakes are vented to help dissipate heat for shorter stops with less fading. The rear discs on the GLB are solid, not vented.

The Q3 stops shorter than the GLB:

Tires and Wheels

For better traction, the Q3’s optional tires are larger than the largest tires available on the GLB (255/45R19 vs. 235/55R18).

The Q3’s optional tires provide better handling because they have a lower 40 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the GLB’s optional 45 series tires.

The Q3 has a standard space-saver spare tire so you can replace a flat tire and drive to have the flat repaired or replaced. A spare tire isn’t available on the GLB; it requires you to depend on its run-flat tires, which limits mileage and speed before they are repaired. If a run-flat is damaged beyond repair by a road hazard your vehicle will have to be towed. Some tire options on the GLB don’t have a run-flat feature, either.

Chassis

The Q3 is 5.8 inches shorter than the GLB, making the Q3 easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

Passenger Space

The Q3 has .8 inches more front shoulder room and .2 inches more rear shoulder room than the GLB.

Cargo Capacity

The Q3 has a much larger cargo volume than the GLB with its rear seat up (23.7 vs. 5.1 cubic feet).

Towing

The Q3 has a 1500 lbs. towing capacity. The GLB has no towing capacity.

Ergonomics

Heated windshield washer nozzles are standard on the Q3 to prevent washer fluid and nozzles from freezing and help continue to keep the windshield clear in sub-freezing temperatures. Heated windshield washer nozzles cost extra on the GLB.

To shield the driver and front passenger’s vision over a larger portion of the windshield and side windows, the Q3 has standard extendable sun visors. The GLB doesn’t offer extendable visors.

Economic Advantages

Insurance will cost less for the Q3 owner. The Complete Car Cost Guide estimates that insurance for the Q3 will cost $270 to $1195 less than the GLB over a five-year period.

Recommendations

Consumer Reports® recommends the Audi Q3, based on reliability, safety and performance.

The Audi Q3 outsold the Mercedes GLB by 33% during 2023.
