The Q4 e-tron’s pre-crash front seatbelts will tighten automatically in the event the vehicle detects an impending crash, improving protection against injury significantly. The EX30 doesn’t offer pre-crash pretensioners.

Both the Q4 e-tron and EX30 have child safety locks to prevent children from opening the rear doors. The Q4 e-tron has power child safety locks, allowing the driver to activate and deactivate them from the driver's seat and to know when they're engaged. The EX30’s child locks have to be individually engaged at each rear door with a manual switch. The driver can’t know the status of the locks without opening the doors and checking them.

Both the Q4 e-tron and the EX30 have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, post-collision automatic braking systems, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning and available around view monitors.

The Audi Q4 e-tron weighs 545 to 1003 pounds more than the Volvo EX30. The NHTSA advises that heavier vehicles are much safer in collisions than their significantly lighter counterparts.

The Audi Q4 e-tron achieved a “Top Safety Pick” rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) for the 2024 model year. This recognition was based on its impressive performance in the small overlap frontal crash test, updated side impact crash test, headlight evaluations, and pedestrian crash prevention testing. The EX30 has not yet been evaluated by the IIHS for 2024.

From surveys of all its subscribers, Consumer Reports’ January 2024 Auto Issue reports that Audi vehicles are more reliable than Volvo vehicles. Consumer Reports ranks Audi 6 places higher in reliability than Volvo.

The Q4 45 e-tron’s standard electric motor produces 14 more horsepower (282 vs. 268) and 160 lbs.-ft. more torque (413 vs. 253) than the EX30’s standard electric motor. The Q4 45 e-tron’s electric motor produces 13 lbs.-ft. more torque (413 vs. 400) than the EX30’s standard electric motors. The Q4 55 e-tron’s standard electric motors produces 101 lbs.-ft. more torque (501 vs. 400) than the EX30’s standard electric motors.

On the EPA test cycle the Q4 45 e-tron RWD gets better mileage than the EX30 19" Wheels RWD (125 city/104 hwy vs. 124 city/103 hwy MPGe).

The Q4 e-tron can travel longer on a full charge than the EX30 on a full charge:

The Q4 e-tron has a standard locking charge port which locks and unlocks with the power locks. The EX30 doesn’t have a locking charge port. A locking charge port prevents tampering and damage.

For better stopping power the Q4 e-tron’s brake rotors are larger than those on the EX30:

For better traction, the Q4 e-tron has larger tires than the EX30 (F:235/55R19 & R:255/50R19 vs. 225/55R18).

The Q4 e-tron’s standard 255/50R19 rear tires provide better handling because they have a lower 50 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the EX30’s standard 55 series tires. The Q4 e-tron 55 e-tron’s optional 255/40R21 rear tires have a lower 40 series profile than the EX30’s optional 45 series tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the Q4 e-tron has standard 19-inch wheels. Smaller 18-inch wheels are standard on the EX30. The Q4 e-tron 55 e-tron’s optional 21-inch wheels are larger than the 19-inch wheels optional on the EX30.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the Q4 e-tron’s wheelbase is 4.4 inches longer than on the EX30 (108.7 inches vs. 104.3 inches).

For better maneuverability, the Q4 e-tron 45’s turning circle is 1.6 feet tighter than the EX30’s (33.5 feet vs. 35.1 feet).

The Q4 e-tron has 1.6 inches more front shoulder room, 4.9 inches more rear legroom and 2.1 inches more rear shoulder room than the EX30.

The Q4 e-tron has a much larger cargo volume with its rear seat up than the EX30 with its rear seat up (24.8 vs. 11.2 cubic feet). The Q4 e-tron has a much larger cargo volume with its rear seat folded than the EX30 with its rear seat folded (53.1 vs. 27.8 cubic feet).

To make loading groceries and cargo easier when your hands are full, the Q4 e-tron’s available liftgate can be opened and closed just by kicking your foot under the back bumper, leaving your hands completely free. The EX30 doesn’t offer a hands-free gesture to open its liftgate, forcing you to put cargo down if your hands are full.

The Q4 e-tron’s standard towing capacity is much higher than the EX30’s (2205 vs. 2000 pounds). Maximum trailer towing in the Volvo EX30 is only 2000 pounds. The Q4 e-tron offers up to a 2646 lbs. towing capacity.

The Q4 e-tron offers an optional heads-up display that projects speed and driver assistance information readouts in front of the driver’s line of sight, allowing drivers to view information without diverting their eyes from the road. The EX30 doesn’t offer a heads-up display.

The Q4 e-tron’s standard power window controls are mounted on the armrest for easy access. The EX30’s available power window controls are spread out on the center console where they can’t be seen without the driver completely removing his eyes from the road.

Heated windshield washer nozzles are standard on the Q4 e-tron to prevent washer fluid and nozzles from freezing and help continue to keep the windshield clear in sub-freezing temperatures. The EX30 doesn’t offer heated windshield washer nozzles.

In poor weather, headlights can lose their effectiveness as grime builds up on their lenses. This can reduce visibility without the driver realizing. The Q4 e-tron Prestige has standard headlight washers to keep headlight output high. The EX30 doesn’t offer headlight washers.

To shield the driver and front passenger’s vision over a larger portion of the windshield and side windows, the Q4 e-tron has standard extendable sun visors. The EX30 doesn’t offer extendable visors.

The Q4 e-tron’s power mirror controls are mounted on the armrest for easy access. The EX30’s power mirror controls are embedded in the infotainment system, seriously distracting drivers who have to adjust them while driving.

The Q4 e-tron has a standard center folding armrest for the rear passengers. A center armrest helps make rear passengers more comfortable and it can provide a boundary between children. The EX30 doesn’t offer a rear seat center armrest.

The Q4 e-tron has a standard dual zone air conditioning allows the driver and front passenger to choose two completely different temperatures so people with different temperature preferences won’t have to compromise. This makes both the driver and front passenger as comfortable as possible. Dual zone air conditioning is only available on the EX30 Plus/Ultra.

Both the Q4 e-tron and the EX30 offer rear vents. For greater rear passenger comfort, the Q4 e-tron has standard rear air conditioning vents to keep rear occupants cool in summer or warm in winter. The EX30 doesn’t offer rear air conditioning vents, only heat vents.
