Safety

Earlier warning of stopped traffic, traffic signals, dangerous road conditions, weather, or accidents, can keep driver's safer and prevent crashes. The Q8 e-tron has Car-to-X Services, a system that seamlessly communicates important warnings to the driver about impending danger, if they're available. The EX90 doesn’t offer a system that can receive automated systems from infrastructure.

Both the Q8 e-tron and the EX90 have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver and front passenger knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, all wheel drive, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, post-collision automatic braking systems, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning and available around view monitors.

The Audi Q8 e-tron achieved a “Top Safety Pick” rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) for the 2024 model year. This recognition was based on its impressive performance in the small overlap frontal crash test, updated side impact crash test, headlight evaluations, and pedestrian crash prevention testing. The EX90 has not yet been evaluated by the IIHS for 2024.

Reliability

From surveys of all its subscribers, Consumer Reports’ March 2025 Auto Issue reports that Audi vehicles are more reliable than Volvo vehicles. Consumer Reports ranks Audi 8 places higher in reliability than Volvo.

Engine

The SQ8 e-tron’s standard electric motors produces 46 lbs.-ft. more torque (717 vs. 671) than the EX90’s optional electric motors.

Brakes and Stopping

The Q8 e-tron’s standard front and rear disc brakes are vented to help dissipate heat for shorter stops with less fading. The rear discs on the EX90 are solid, not vented.

Tires and Wheels

The Q8 e-tron has a standard space-saver spare tire so you can replace a flat tire and drive to have the flat repaired or replaced. A spare tire isn’t available on the EX90; it requires you to depend on roadside assistance and your vehicle will have to be towed.

Suspension and Handling

The front and rear suspension of the Q8 e-tron uses air springs for a smoother, controlled ride than the EX90, which uses coil springs. Air springs maintain proper ride height and ride more smoothly.

Chassis

The Audi Q8 e-tron may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 150 to 400 pounds less than the Volvo EX90.

The Q8 e-tron is 5.3 inches shorter than the EX90, making the Q8 e-tron easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

Passenger Space

The Q8 e-tron has .5 inches more front shoulder room and 2.6 inches more rear legroom than the EX90.

Ergonomics

Unlike the driver-only memory seat and mirrors in the EX90, the Q8 e-tron Prestige has a passenger memory, so that when drivers switch, the memory setting adjusts the driver’s seat, steering wheel position and outside mirror angle and the front passenger seat also adjusts to the new passenger’s preset preferences.

The Q8 e-tron’s power mirror controls are mounted on the armrest for easy access. The EX90’s power mirror controls are embedded in the infotainment system, seriously distracting drivers who have to adjust them while driving.

The Audi Q8 e-tron has power folding mirrors that offer unparalleled convenience while maneuvering in tight places or parked. With the mirrors folded it’s easier to walk past and help prevent parking damage. The mirrors can be quickly unfolded when the driver is ready to leave. Power folding mirrors are not standard on all versions of the EX90.

The Q8 e-tron Prestige’s Park Assist Plus can parallel park or back into a parking spot by itself, starting, stopping and changing direction automatically. Remote Park Assist Plus will park and retrieve your car remotely: press a button and watch it park itself. This is ideal for tight locations. The EX90’s automatic parking system does not offer parking by remote control.

Recommendations

The Audi Q8 e-tron outsold the Volvo EX90 by over three to one during 2024.
