2025 Audi SQ5
2025 Bentley Bentayga

Safety

The SQ5 has a standard Secondary Collision Brake Assist, which automatically applies the brakes in the event of a crash to help prevent secondary collisions and prevent further injuries. The Bentayga doesn’t offer a post collision braking system: in the event of a collision that triggers the airbags, more collisions are possible without the protection of airbags that may have already deployed.

Over 200 people are killed each year when backed over by motor vehicles. The SQ5 has a standard Maneuver Assist that uses rear sensors to monitor for objects to the rear and automatically applies the brakes to prevent a collision. The Bentayga doesn’t offer automatic braking for stationary objects directly to the rear.

The SQ5’s standard lane departure warning system alerts a temporarily inattentive driver when the vehicle begins to leave its lane and gently nudges the vehicle back towards its lane. A lane departure warning system costs extra on the Bentayga.

The SQ5’s driver alert monitor detects an inattentive driver then sounds a warning and suggests a break. According to the NHTSA, drivers who fall asleep cause about 100,000 crashes and 1500 deaths a year. The Bentayga doesn’t offer a driver alert monitor.

Both the SQ5 and the Bentayga have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, all wheel drive, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning and available around view monitors.

Warranty

The SQ5 comes with a full 4-year/50,000-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire truck and includes 24-hour roadside assistance. The Bentayga’s 3-year basic warranty expires 1 year sooner.

The SQ5’s corrosion warranty is 9 years longer than the Bentayga’s (12 vs. 3 years).

There are over 6 times as many Audi dealers as there are Bentley dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the SQ5’s warranty.

Fuel Economy and Range

On the EPA test cycle the SQ5 gets better mileage than the Bentayga running its gasoline engine:

MPG

SQ5

AWD

3.0 turbo V6

19 city/24 hwy

Bentayga

AWD

4.0 turbo V8

14 city/21 hwy

3.0 turbo V6 Hybrid

19 city/23 hwy

To lower fuel costs and make buying fuel easier, the Audi SQ5 uses regular unleaded gasoline (premium recommended for maximum performance). The Bentayga requires premium, which can cost on average about 84.9 cents more per gallon.

Environmental Friendliness

In its Green Vehicle Guide, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) rates the Audi SQ5 higher (4 out of 10) than the Bentley Bentayga (2). This means the SQ5 produces up to 15.6 pounds less smog-producing pollutants than the Bentayga every 15,000 miles.

Transmission

The SQ5’s launch control uses engine electronics to hold engine RPM’s precisely in order to provide the most stable and rapid acceleration possible, using all of the available traction. The Bentayga doesn’t offer launch control.

Brakes and Stopping

The SQ5 stops much shorter than the Bentayga:

195 feet

Motor Trend

Suspension and Handling

The SQ5’s front to rear weight distribution is more even (54.3% to 45.7%) than the Bentayga’s (56% to 44%). This gives the SQ5 more stable handling and braking.

The SQ5 Prestige handles at .93 G’s, while the Bentayga pulls only .78 G’s of cornering force in a Car and Driver skidpad test.

Chassis

The Audi SQ5 may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 1050 to 1550 pounds less than the Bentley Bentayga.

The SQ5 is 1 foot, 5.5 inches shorter than the Bentayga, making the SQ5 easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

Cargo Capacity

The SQ5 has a much larger cargo volume than the Bentayga with its rear seat up (25.9 vs. 17.1 cubic feet).

The SQ5’s standard rear seats fold to accommodate long and bulky cargo. The Bentayga w/Four Seat Comfort Specification doesn’t offer folding rear seats, only a ski pass-through.

Ergonomics

If the windows are left open on the SQ5 the driver can close them all at the outside door handle or from a distance using the remote. On a hot day the driver can lower the windows from a distance using the keyless remote. The driver of the Bentayga can only operate the windows from inside the vehicle, with the ignition on.

The SQ5’s power window, power lock, power mirror and cruise control switches are lit from behind, making them plainly visible and easier to operate at night. The Bentayga’s cruise control switches are unlit, making them difficult to find at night and operate safely.

The Audi SQ5 has a standard Homelink wireless remote control system for garage door operation and device management, conveniently located on the rear view mirror. Homelink® eliminates the need for separate garage door openers and associated risks of losing, breaking, or having dead batteries. Bentley charges extra for Homelink® on the Bentayga.

Recommendations

The Audi Q5/SQ5 outsold the Bentley Bentayga by over 46 to one during 2024.
