Both the A6 e-tron and Mirai have child safety locks to prevent children from opening the rear doors. The A6 e-tron has power child safety locks, allowing the driver to activate and deactivate them from the driver's seat and to know when they're engaged. The Mirai’s child locks have to be individually engaged at each rear door with a manual switch. The driver can’t know the status of the locks without opening the doors and checking them.

In the past twenty years hundreds of infants and young children have died after being left in vehicles, usually by accident. When turning the vehicle off, drivers of the A6 e-tron are reminded to check the back seat when a sensor determines the back seat is occupied. The Mirai doesn’t offer a back seat reminder.

In a Vehicle-to-Vehicle Frontal Crash Prevention 2.0 test conducted by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), the Audi A6 e-tron achieved a “Good” rating - the highest possible - for its performance in forward collision warning and automatic braking systems, demonstrating its excellent capabilities in preventing collisions. The Toyota Mirai has not been tested.

The A6 e-tron Quattro has all-wheel drive to maximize traction under poor conditions, especially in ice and snow. The Mirai doesn’t offer all-wheel drive.

Earlier warning of stopped traffic, traffic signals, dangerous road conditions, weather, or accidents, can keep driver's safer and prevent crashes. The A6 e-tron has Car-to-X Services, a system that seamlessly communicates important warnings to the driver about impending danger, if they're available. The Mirai doesn’t offer a system that can receive automated systems from infrastructure or other vehicles.

Both the A6 e-tron and the Mirai have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver and front passenger knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, post-collision automatic braking systems, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning, driver alert monitors and available around view monitors.

The Audi A6 e-tron weighs 694 to 937 pounds more than the Toyota Mirai. The NHTSA advises that heavier cars are much safer in collisions than their significantly lighter counterparts.

The Audi A6 e-tron (only applies to vehicles with Active Front Assist) has achieved the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety’s (IIHS) highest rating of “Top Safety Pick Plus” for the 2025 model year. This distinction is based on its exceptional performance in IIHS’ rigorous battery of safety tests. Specifically, it earned a “Good” rating in the latest, more stringent moderate overlap front crash test, a “Good” result in the updated side impact test, and a “Good” score in the revised pedestrian crash prevention test. The Mirai has not yet been evaluated by the IIHS for 2025.

The A6 e-tron comes with a full 4-year/50,000-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire car and includes 24-hour roadside assistance. The Mirai’s 3-year/36,000-mile basic warranty expires 1 year or 14,000 miles sooner.

The A6 e-tron’s corrosion warranty is 7 years longer than the Mirai’s (12 vs. 5 years).

The A6 e-tron’s standard electric motor produces 193 more horsepower (375 vs. 182) and 207 lbs.-ft. more torque (428 vs. 221) than the Mirai’s electric motor. The A6 e-tron Quattro’s standard electric motors produces 274 more horsepower (456 vs. 182) and 410 lbs.-ft. more torque (631 vs. 221) than the Mirai’s electric motor.

The A6 e-tron’s launch control uses engine electronics to hold engine RPM’s precisely in order to provide the most stable and rapid acceleration possible, using all of the available traction. The Mirai doesn’t offer launch control.

For better stopping power the A6 e-tron’s brake rotors are larger than those on the Mirai:

For better traction and acceleration, the A6 e-tron has larger standard rear tires than the Mirai (255/50R19 vs. 235/55R19). The A6 e-tron’s rear tires are larger than the largest rear tires available on the Mirai (265/40R20 vs. 235/55R19).

The A6 e-tron’s standard 255/50R19 rear tires provide better handling because they have a lower 50 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the Mirai’s standard 55 series tires. The A6 e-tron’s 235/45R20 front and 265/40R20 rear tires have a lower 45 series front and 40 series rear profile than the Mirai’s 55 series tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the A6 e-tron has standard 20-inch wheels. The Mirai’s largest wheels are only 19-inches.

Changing a flat tire near traffic can be dangerous and inconvenient. The run-flat tires available on the A6 e-tron can be driven up to 50 miles without any air pressure, allowing you to drive to a service station for a repair. The Mirai doesn’t offer run-flat tires.

The A6 e-tron offers an available driver-adjustable suspension system. It allows the driver to choose between an extra-supple ride, reducing fatigue on long trips, or a sport setting, which allows maximum control for tricky roads. The Mirai’s suspension doesn’t offer adjustable shock absorbers.

The A6 e-tron Prestige has a standard automatic front and rear load leveling suspension to keep ride height level with a heavy load or when towing. The A6 e-tron’s height leveling suspension allows the driver to raise ride height for better off-road clearance and then lower it again for easier entering and exiting and better on-road handling. The Mirai doesn’t offer a load leveling suspension.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the A6 e-tron’s wheelbase is 1.2 inches longer than on the Mirai (116.1 inches vs. 114.9 inches).

The A6 e-tron Prestige handles at .88 G’s, while the Mirai XLE pulls only .84 G’s of cornering force in a Motor Trend skidpad test.

The A6 e-tron Prestige executes Motor Trend’s “Figure Eight” maneuver 1.2 seconds quicker than the Mirai XLE (26.1 seconds @ .74 average G’s vs. 27.3 seconds @ .63 average G’s).

The design of the Audi A6 e-tron amounts to more than styling. The A6 e-tron has an aerodynamic coefficient of drag of .23 Cd. That is significantly lower than the Mirai (.29) and many sports cars. A more efficient exterior helps keep the interior quieter and helps the A6 e-tron get better fuel mileage.

The front grille of the A6 e-tron uses electronically controlled shutters to close off airflow and reduce drag when less engine cooling is needed. This helps improve highway fuel economy. The Mirai doesn’t offer active grille shutters.

The A6 e-tron has .1 inches more front headroom, .9 inches more rear headroom, 2.1 inches more rear legroom and 2.9 inches more rear shoulder room than the Mirai.

The A6 e-tron’s standard rear seats fold to accommodate long and bulky cargo. The Mirai doesn’t offer folding rear seats.

To make loading and unloading groceries and cargo easier when your hands are full, the A6 e-tron’s power liftgate can be opened or closed just by kicking your foot under the back bumper, leaving your hands completely free. The Mirai doesn’t offer a power or hands-free opening trunk.

A Service Interval Display is standard on the A6 e-tron to save the owner time and money by calculating maintenance intervals based on odometer mileage. This takes the guesswork out of keeping your vehicle in top condition and helps it last longer. Toyota doesn’t offer a maintenance reminder on the Mirai.

When different drivers share the A6 e-tron, the memory seats and mirrors make it convenient. Each setting activates different, customized memories for the driver’s seat position and outside mirror angle. The Mirai doesn’t offer a memory system.

The A6 e-tron’s rain-sensitive wipers adjust their speed and turn on and off automatically based on the amount of rainfall on the windshield. This allows the driver to concentrate on driving without constantly adjusting the wipers. The Mirai XLE’s standard manually variable intermittent wipers have to be constantly adjusted.

In poor weather, headlights can lose their effectiveness as grime builds up on their lenses. This can reduce visibility without the driver realizing. The A6 e-tron Premium Plus/Prestige has standard headlight washers to keep headlight output high. The Mirai doesn’t offer headlight washers.

To help drivers see further while navigating curves, the A6 e-tron has standard adaptive headlights to illuminate around corners automatically by reading vehicle speed and steering wheel angle. The Mirai doesn’t offer cornering lights.

When the A6 e-tron is put in reverse, the passenger rearview mirror tilts from its original position. This gives the driver a better view of the curb during parallel parking maneuvers. Shifting out of reverse puts the mirror into its original position. The Mirai’s mirror doesn’t automatically adjust for backing.

The A6 e-tron’s standard rear and side view mirrors have an automatic dimming feature. These mirrors can be set to automatically darken quickly when headlights shine on them, keeping following vehicles from blinding or distracting the driver. The Mirai has an automatic rear view mirror, but its side mirrors don’t dim.

On extremely cold winter days, the A6 e-tron’s optional heated steering wheel provides comfort, allowing the driver to steer safely and comfortably before the car heater warms up. The Mirai doesn’t offer a heated steering wheel.
