Safety

Both the e-tron GT and LS have child safety locks to prevent children from opening the rear doors. The e-tron GT has power child safety locks, allowing the driver to activate and deactivate them from the driver's seat and to know when they're engaged. The LS’ child locks have to be individually engaged at each rear door with a manual switch. The driver can’t know the status of the locks without opening the doors and checking them.

In the past twenty years hundreds of infants and young children have died after being left in vehicles, usually by accident. When turning the vehicle off, drivers of the e-tron GT are reminded to check the back seat if they opened the rear door before starting out. The LS doesn’t offer a back seat reminder.

Both the e-tron GT and the LS have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front and rear side-impact airbags, driver and front passenger knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, all-wheel drive, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, post-collision automatic braking systems, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, around view monitors and rear cross-path warning.

Warranty

The e-tron GT’s corrosion warranty is 6 years longer than the LS’ (12 vs. 6 years).

Audi pays for scheduled maintenance (up to 3 visits) on the e-tron GT for 2 years and 20,000 miles longer than Lexus pays for maintenance for the LS (3/30,000 vs. 1/10,000).

There are over 25 percent more Audi dealers than there are Lexus dealers, which makes it easier should you ever need service under the e-tron GT’s warranty.

The e-tron GT’s electric motors produces 496 more horsepower (912 vs. 416) and 295 lbs.-ft. more torque (737 vs. 442) than the LS’ 3.4 turbo V6.

Fuel Economy and Range

On the EPA test cycle the RS e-tron GT performance gets better mileage than the LS 500 AWD (85 city/82 hwy MPGe vs. 17 city/27 hwy).

The RS e-tron GT performance can travel with zero emissions for 278 miles. The LS can’t move without running its internal combustion engine.

Regenerative brakes improve the e-tron GT’s fuel efficiency by converting inertia back into energy instead of wasting it. The LS doesn’t offer a regenerative braking system.

The e-tron GT, as a pure battery electric vehicle, has no need to “idle” its motors in traffic: they only burn power when moving. The e-tron GT’s climate control systems still work completely when the vehicle is stopped. The LS still runs its internal combustion engine whenever it’s stopped, burning excess fuel.

Environmental Friendliness

In its Green Vehicle Guide, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) rates the Audi e-tron GT higher (10 out of 10) than the Lexus LS (4). This means the e-tron GT produces up to 25 pounds less smog-producing pollutants than the LS every 15,000 miles.

Transmission

The e-tron GT’s launch control uses engine electronics to hold engine RPM’s precisely in order to provide the most stable and rapid acceleration possible, using all of the available traction. The LS doesn’t offer launch control.

The e-tron GT offers optional heat-treated ceramic brake rotors, which last ten to twenty times as long as conventional cast iron rotors, don’t rust, don’t fade during repeated high speed braking, and their lighter weight contribute to better braking, handling and acceleration. The LS doesn’t offer ceramic brake rotors.

Tires and Wheels

For better traction, the e-tron GT has larger tires than the LS (F:265/35R21 & R:305/30R21 vs. 245/45R20).

The e-tron GT’s 265/35R21 front and 305/30R21 rear tires provide better handling because they have a lower 35 series front and 30 series rear profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the LS’ standard 45 series tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the e-tron GT has standard 21-inch wheels. Only 20-inch wheels are available on the LS.

Suspension and Handling

The front and rear suspension of the e-tron GT uses air springs for a smoother, controlled ride than the LS, which uses coil springs. Air springs maintain proper ride height and ride more smoothly.

The e-tron GT offers an available active suspension system, which counteracts cornering forces actively, limiting body roll and improving handling and stability. Lexus doesn’t offer an active suspension on the LS.

The e-tron GT has a standard automatic front and rear load leveling suspension to keep ride height level with a heavy load or when towing. The e-tron GT’s height leveling suspension allows the driver to raise ride height for better off-road clearance and then lower it again for easier entering and exiting and better on-road handling. The LS doesn’t offer a load leveling suspension.

For better handling and stability, the track (width between the wheels) on the e-tron GT is 2.7 inches wider in the front and 1.3 inches wider in the rear than on the LS.

The e-tron GT’s front to rear weight distribution is more even (49% to 51%) than the LS’ (53.3% to 46.7%). This gives the e-tron GT more stable handling and braking.

The RS e-tron GT performance handles at 1.01 G’s, while the LS 500 AWD Heritage Edition pulls only .83 G’s of cornering force in a Car and Driver skidpad test.

The RS e-tron GT performance executes Motor Trend’s “Figure Eight” maneuver 2.4 seconds quicker than the LS 500 AWD Heritage Edition (23.3 seconds @ .93 average G’s vs. 25.7 seconds @ .73 average G’s).

For better maneuverability, the e-tron GT’s turning circle is 1.3 feet tighter than the LS AWD’s (38.1 feet vs. 39.4 feet).

Chassis

The e-tron GT is 9.4 inches shorter than the LS, making the e-tron GT easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

The design of the Audi e-tron GT amounts to more than styling. The e-tron GT has an aerodynamic coefficient of drag of .26 Cd. That is significantly lower than the LS (.3) and many sports cars. A more efficient exterior helps keep the interior quieter and helps the e-tron GT get better fuel mileage.

Passenger Space

The e-tron GT has 1.4 inches more front headroom, .9 inches more front legroom and .1 inches more rear headroom than the LS.

Cargo Capacity

The e-tron GT’s standard rear seats fold to accommodate long and bulky cargo. The LS doesn’t offer folding rear seats.

Ergonomics

Laser headlights, standard on the e-tron GT Prestige/RS, produce their light by firing blue lasers through phosphorus, a process that uses one-half the power of the LS’ LED headlights. Laser headlights can have double the range of LEDs with a much smaller surface area.

The e-tron GT’s Park Assist Plus can parallel park or back into a parking spot by itself, starting, stopping and changing direction automatically. Remote Park Assist will park and retrieve your car remotely: press a button and watch it park itself. This is ideal for tight locations. The LS’ automatic parking system does not offer parking by remote control.
