Safety

The Audi e-tron GT has standard driver and front passenger side knee airbags mounted low on the dashboard. These airbags help prevent the driver and front passenger from sliding under their seatbelts or the main frontal airbags; this keeps them better positioned during a collision for maximum protection. Knee airbags also help keep the legs from striking the dashboard, preventing knee and leg injuries in the case of a serious frontal collision. The S90 doesn’t offer a front passenger side knee airbag.

Both the e-tron GT and the S90 have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front and rear side-impact airbags, driver knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, all-wheel drive, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, post-collision automatic braking systems, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, around view monitors and rear cross-path warning.

The Audi e-tron GT weighs 509 to 841 pounds more than the Volvo S90. The NHTSA advises that heavier cars are much safer in collisions than their significantly lighter counterparts.

Warranty

Audi pays for scheduled maintenance (up to 3 visits) on the e-tron GT for 1 year and 10,000 miles longer than Volvo pays for maintenance for the S90 (3/30,000 vs. 2/20,000).

There are over 9 percent more Audi dealers than there are Volvo dealers, which makes it easier should you ever need service under the e-tron GT’s warranty.

Reliability

From surveys of all its subscribers, Consumer Reports’ March 2026 Auto Issue reports that Audi vehicles are more reliable than Volvo vehicles. Consumer Reports ranks Audi 2 places higher in reliability than Volvo.

The e-tron GT’s electric motors produces 617 more horsepower (912 vs. 295) and 427 lbs.-ft. more torque (737 vs. 310) than the S90 B6’s standard 2.0 turbo/supercharged 4-cylinder hybrid. The e-tron GT’s electric motors produces 457 more horsepower (912 vs. 455) and 214 lbs.-ft. more torque (737 vs. 523) than the S90 T8’s standard 2.0 turbo/supercharged 4-cylinder hybrid.

The RS e-tron GT performance can travel with zero emissions on a full charge for 278 miles. The S90 T8 has to start its internal combustion engine after only 38 miles.

Environmental Friendliness

In its Green Vehicle Guide, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) rates the Audi e-tron GT higher (10 out of 10) than the Volvo S90 (6). This means the e-tron GT produces up to 12.9 pounds less smog-producing pollutants than the S90 every 15,000 miles.

Transmission

The e-tron GT’s launch control uses engine electronics to hold engine RPM’s precisely in order to provide the most stable and rapid acceleration possible, using all of the available traction. The S90 doesn’t offer launch control.

The e-tron GT offers optional heat-treated ceramic brake rotors, which last ten to twenty times as long as conventional cast iron rotors, don’t rust, don’t fade during repeated high speed braking, and their lighter weight contribute to better braking, handling and acceleration. The S90 doesn’t offer ceramic brake rotors.

Tires and Wheels

For better traction, the e-tron GT has larger tires than the S90 (F:265/35R21 & R:305/30R21 vs. 255/35R20).

The e-tron GT’s 265/35R21 front and 305/30R21 rear tires provide better handling because they have a lower 35 series front and 30 series rear profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the S90’s standard 40 series tires. The e-tron GT’s tires are lower profile than the S90’s optional 35 series tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the e-tron GT has standard 21-inch wheels. Smaller 19-inch wheels are standard on the S90. The S90’s largest wheels are only 20-inches.

Suspension and Handling

The front and rear suspension of the e-tron GT uses air springs for a smoother, controlled ride than the S90, which uses coil springs in front and transverse leafs springs in the rear. Air springs maintain proper ride height and ride more smoothly.

The e-tron GT offers an available active suspension system, which counteracts cornering forces actively, limiting body roll and improving handling and stability. Volvo doesn’t offer an active suspension on the S90.

The e-tron GT has a standard automatic front and rear load leveling suspension to keep ride height level with a heavy load or when towing. The e-tron GT’s height leveling suspension allows the driver to raise ride height for better off-road clearance and then lower it again for easier entering and exiting and better on-road handling. The S90 doesn’t offer a load leveling suspension.

For better handling and stability, the track (width between the wheels) on the e-tron GT is 3.3 inches wider in the front and 1.9 inches wider in the rear than on the S90.

The RS e-tron GT performance handles at 1.01 G’s, while the S90 pulls only .90 G’s of cornering force in a Car and Driver skidpad test.

The RS e-tron GT performance executes Motor Trend’s “Figure Eight” maneuver 3 seconds quicker than the S90 (23.3 seconds @ .93 average G’s vs. 26.3 seconds @ .68 average G’s).

For better maneuverability, the e-tron GT’s turning circle is .6 feet tighter than the S90’s (38.1 feet vs. 38.7 feet).

Chassis

The e-tron GT is 3.4 inches shorter than the S90, making the e-tron GT easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

The design of the Audi e-tron GT amounts to more than styling. The e-tron GT has an aerodynamic coefficient of drag of .26 Cd. That is lower than the S90 (.28 to .33) and many sports cars. A more efficient exterior helps keep the interior quieter and helps the e-tron GT get better fuel mileage.

Cargo Capacity

The e-tron GT’s standard rear seats fold to accommodate long and bulky cargo. The S90 Luxury Package doesn’t offer folding rear seats.

Servicing Ease

A Service Interval Display is standard on the e-tron GT to save the owner time and money by calculating maintenance intervals for vehicle inspections, vehicle inspection based on odometer mileage. This takes the guesswork out of keeping your vehicle in top condition and helps it last longer. Volvo doesn’t offer a maintenance reminder on the S90.

Ergonomics

The e-tron GT’s standard easy entry system glides the driver’s seat back, making it easier for the driver to get in and out. The S90 doesn’t offer an easy entry system.

Laser headlights, standard on the e-tron GT Prestige/RS, produce their light by firing blue lasers through phosphorus, a process that uses one-half the power of the S90’s LED headlights. Laser headlights can have double the range of LEDs with a much smaller surface area.

To shield the driver and front passenger’s vision over a larger portion of the windshield and side windows, the e-tron GT has standard extendable sun visors. The S90 doesn’t offer extendable visors.

The e-tron GT’s Park Assist Plus can parallel park or back into a parking spot by itself, starting, stopping and changing direction automatically. Remote Park Assist will park and retrieve your car remotely: press a button and watch it park itself. This is ideal for tight locations. The S90 doesn’t offer an automated parking system.
